Job Description

Medcare Hospitals & Medical Centers are looking to hire an experienced and passionate Optometrist to join our Medical Center in Dubai.

Key Duties:

Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma  or  color  blindness.  Educate  and  counsel  patients on  contact lens care, visual  hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.. Consult with and refer patients to ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary. Remove foreign bodies from the eye. Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre‐ and post‐operative care.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids

2. He / She will emphasize always towards patient care as well as the safety satisfaction of patients.

3. Consult with and refer patients to ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary. Remove foreign bodies from the eye.

4. To report the progress of the patient and to maintain department statistics.

5. Responsible for  the  safety  of  the  patients  and  safety  and  security  of  all  machines  and equipments.

6. To maintain safe functioning equipments by regular checks and requested to purchase the accessories.

7. Adhere strictly and implement all infection control measures.

8. Must be able to comply special restrictions pertaining to Emirates laws and customs.

Performance Indicators

  1. Number of patients treated during the assessment period.
  2. Number of adverse events.
  3. Number of satisfied patients



Competency Unit: Optometrists meet their patients’ eye and vision care related needs with the objectives  of  achieving  appropriate  outcomes  and  maintaining  or  improving  their  patients’ quality of life.

1.1     Competency Element: Optometrists develop and maintain a professional relationship with patients throughout patients’ visits

1.2     Competency Element: Optometrists establish the reason(s) for patients’ visits


1.3     Competency Element: Optometrists complete a history to enable the diagnosis of patients’

eye and vision care problems


1.4     Competency Element: Optometrists assess the oculo‐visual status of patients to identify any eye and vision care problems


1.5     Competency Element: Optometrists refer patients for care or special testing required to manage their eye or vision care problems

1.6    Competency Element: Optometrists diagnose patients’ eye and vision conditions


1.7     Competency   Element:   Optometrists   develop,   recommend   and   implement   patient management plans

1.8     Competency  Element:  Optometrists  provide  the  follow‐up  care  required  to  manage patients’ eye and vision care problems

Required Performance Criteria: Explanation of the reason/timing of follow‐up by discussion of expected desired and possible adverse effects of the treatment prescribed and their normal time frames for occurrence

1.9       Competency Element: Optometrists manage patient‐specific, confidential information



Optometrists support an integrated healthcare system by collaborating with other healthcare professionals and service providers to facilitate the management of the overall health needs, and to encourage the well‐being of their patients.


Optometrists apply management skills to optimize the care of their patients and make efficient use of health resources.


Job Location

Medcare Eye Centre


- 3 years minimum experience in similar position and in a hospital / clinical set up will be preferred.

- Strong communication skills are required.


 - Bachelor Degree in Optometry from a reputed institution.

 - Should have DHA license or Eligibility letter.
